Sandhill Crane Migration - November 2023

In November, I was lucky enough to go on two camping trips with my sister in Indiana. Both times, I was able to visit the Jasper-Pulaski Wildlife Area. This time of year, thousands of these 4-foot tall Sandhill Cranes stop in the area to rest and refuel in the surrounding recently harvested fields. When I reflect on this incredible experience, the word “spectacle” comes to mind. The definition is “a visually striking performance or display,” and my visits were not even at the peak of migration where over 30,000 cranes are in the area!
